Let's Start With the Basics
Here's something worth knowing before you shop: there's no single 'rate' for a gemstone. Two stones sold under the exact same name can cost very differently. And that gap comes down to the same six things a gemologist checks every single time.
1 Weight
Big and clean stones are not found often, so the price increases more than the size itself.
2 Quality
With sapphire or emerald, colour, cut and clarity matter the most. For organic ones like pearl and red coral, shape and surface are premium factors to focus on.
3 Origin
A Ceylon blue sapphire, a Zambian or Colombian emerald, a natural saltwater pearl, stones from these places genuinely cost more than similar stones from elsewhere.
4 Treatment
Treated stones are fine to buy, as long as the seller tells you upfront. They just cost less than untreated ones, since untreated stones are harder to find.
5 Certification
A lab report telling you about the gemstone being natural or treated, real or synthetic, is what protects your money. With a proper lab certificate in hand, you can easily tell the authenticity of the stone.
6 Rarity
Some stones are rare. That's why they cost more. So it is better to take your time, ask questions, and buy when you're sure.

Ratti or Carat? The Price Depends on This
Ratti or carat, both units are used in the indian gemstone trade, and mixing both is the easiest way by which we can end up with confusion related to the pricing of gemstones.
Rt Ratti
About 0.91 carat, or 0.182 grams. This is the traditional unit, the one astrologers usually recommend weight in.
Ct Carat
The standard used worldwide, 0.2 grams each. It's just a little bigger than a ratti, so the same stone will look pricier when you quote it in carats instead of ratti.
So before you compare two prices, make sure you're actually comparing the same weight. Our Carat to Ratti Converter will show you the difference in seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do natural gemstone prices vary so much?
Weight, quality, origin, treatment, certification, these decide the real price. Two stones with the same name can cost very differently because of this. The "rate" you hear is just a starting point.
Is per-ratti or per-carat the right way to compare?
Both are used here. 1 ratti is about 0.91 carat, so per carat will always look a bit pricier. Just check the unit before comparing.
Does origin really change a gemstone's price?
Yes, definitely. Ceylon sapphires, Zambian and Colombian emeralds, natural pearls, these genuinely cost more. And it should always be on the certificate, not just told to you.
Are more expensive gemstones more astrologically powerful?
Not at all. Your birth chart decides which gemstone would work for you. The higher price stone just means its rarity and better quality.
How do I know I'm paying a fair price for a genuine stone?
It is better to ask for an authentic lab certificate. Also, if the price of the gemstone is too low to be true, there may be hidden factors.
